Kaomoji (◕‿◕) Copy and Paste

Kaomoji are Japanese-style emoticons built entirely from text characters, and unlike Western smileys you read them upright instead of sideways. The magic is in the eyes and mouth: brackets, dots, and accent marks combine into expressive little faces like a cheerful (◕‿◕), a shy (>‿◠), a sweet (｡♥‿♥｡), the famous shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, and animal faces such as the bear ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ. Because they are plain text, they travel well across chat apps, comments, Discord, X, and bios, and they add tone and personality where a single emoji might feel flat. To use one, tap the face to copy the whole sequence, then paste it into your message or profile. Most kaomoji render consistently since they use common symbols, but a few rely on less standard characters, so on certain older devices or fonts a piece of the face can show as a box or shift slightly out of alignment. If that happens, pick another face from the list. Keep in mind that the shrug includes a backslash, which is handled for you when you copy. Kaomoji are great for softening a message, reacting playfully, or signing off a caption, and you can drop them inline mid-sentence the same way you would use an emoji, just upright and made of pure text.
